Can't quite remember which was car it was that I had, as it's a very long time ago. But, it had two needles on the rev counter. Might have been on a Midget. One operated in the normal way, and the other could be manually positioned. I always imagined that was there to be used by the driver as a reminder of the ideal change up point or optimum power in the rev band. But, I don't know that for sure.
Or, perhaps you musht have been dreaming?
