AIUI, the change to the date is only being applied a maximum of 7 days in advance (so that DVSA can choose to terminate the practice as and when with minimum impact). Whether that 7 days is inclusive of the original date or not I don't know, but I may find out shortly.
As the OP says that his expiry date was 25th May, then one might assume (I did, possibly wrongly) that he was still at least one day ahead of that extension being granted - though any amendment to the date could only be checked on line.
So,
if the date was amended before or on the same day he had the test, then the result is what I would have expected.
If the test was carried out before the date was adjusted, and within the month's grace period, then I would have expected to maintain the original anniversary.
