If you have an electrical factor trade distributor in your area you may well find it proves beneficial to buy bulbs etc from there at much lower cost (similar to a motor factors).
I have one in my area (Mr Ohms) where I can buy 4ft flourescent tubes (Crompton 36w) for just over £2, Compton energy saving halogen equivalents of RS80 bulbs (42w) for about the same price (my bathroom has three main lights using these type of bulbs) and other money saving items.
The RS80 bulbs are particularly handy as the originals are now unavailable and reducing the energy consumption by a third helps running costs.
For general small lampshade, I bought some Shinehai 8w LED bulbs 3000k (8w, equivalent of 60w) on Amazon (six bulbs cost just over £13 delivered). They are shaped like standard incandescent bulbs:

In the case of porch/landing lights (they are on permanently) I'm still using 8w, 11w and 20w energy saving bulbs provided free by E-On or bought for just 20p each in a Tesco promotion some years ago.
It's notable though that the E-On Philips bulbs last at least twice as long as Tesco's own brand...:-)
