The elephant at Dudley Zoo was getting old. One of the keepers decided to start a fund raising event to allow the old guy to spend his remaining time back in Africa.
Anyway, it was a great success, and eventually a jumbo jet ( see what I did there? ) was chartered and he was flown back to Africa and released into the wild.
On his first day alone he was pretty lonely, and at a loss as to what to do when he heard a distant rumbling which turned into thunderous roar, followed by an ever gathering dust cloud heading straight towards him.
He was of course terrified having never experienced a noise or sight like it in the West Midlands.
But there was something also innately comforting about it, a childhood memory, something he half recognised. At last the rumbling stopped, and the ground no longer shook, the dust clouds gradually dispersed and revealed an enormous herd of wild elephants with a great big bull elephant at their head, standing perfectly still, staring at the newcomer...
The elephant from Dudley Zoo was both scared and excited at the same time, something at the back of his mind told him that these were his people, but he didn't know any of them.
Eventually the great bull lifted his trunk and roared at him " Did you come here to die?!"
He replied, timidly, "No mate, I come 'ere yisterdai."
